Reminiscent

I hope you've all had a wonderful, lovely, amazing Christmas!

I was just thinking about how quickly this year has went by and thought I'd share some of the most memorable moments of 2014...because the things that make a life worth living are the moments that make it up.

That moment when 4 years of hard work and studying all paid off...

In May, I graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition, Fitness, and Health. The last four years have held some of the best and some of the worst moments of my life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have discovered so much about myself and learned so much about God.

That moment when I moved to a new city and made friends...

In August, I moved to Saint Louis - a city where I knew no one and had never even visited before. This adventure has proved to be quite amazing, and I'm loving every minute - every new experience - every new friend. It's all so good

That moment when I felt like I could do this...

In case you don't know me, I'm not very good at making friends or building rapport, and that's pretty important when working with patients. At one of my more difficult rotations, my preceptor came in the room to evaluate me as I interacted with a patient. I had seen this patient the day before and provided some education, but she had a new diagnosis so I had some more education to give her. She had just come back from a procedure and was pretty pale and tired, but when I knocked on the door and she saw me - her face lit up. Before I had a chance to say anything, she exclaimed "Lorraine, I'm so glad to see you again!" Needless to say, my preceptor was impressed and my day was made. Maybe I'll make a good dietitian, after all.

That moment when I learned about the power of an instant...

In November, I was involved in my first accident. It was a rainy early morning on the first day of my new rotation and I was driving on a curvy, narrow road. I saw another car coming around the corner much too fast and tried to pull off the road. I obviously wasn't fast enough and we had a head on collision, totaling both cars. Thankfully neither of us were seriously hurt, but the amount of pain and soreness that a split second can cause still amazes me. The thumbs up is because it could have been much worse if we had been going faster, if I hadn't seen her coming, if the guardrail hadn't stopped my car, etc. God is good.

That post where I felt like I actually got it right...

And finally:

That quote that you just want to live your life by...

"Those who sanctify time and who give time away - who treat time as a gift and not possession - have time in abundance. Contrariwise, those who guard every minute, resent every interruption, ration every moment, never have enough. They're always late, always behind, always scrambling, always driven. There is, of course, a place for wise management of our days and weeks and years. But management can quickly turn into rigidity. We hold time so tight we crush it, like a flower closed in the fist. We thought we were protecting it, but all we did was destroy it." -Mark Buchanan
